Built in 1853 for the Canada West New Comexion, a branch of the Methodist Church which merged with the Wesleyan Methodists in 1874, resulting in the closing of the Bethel Chapel. A memorial service is held annually on the first Sunday in September, to remember the pioneer settlers of Nelson and other North Burlington residents buried in the cemetery. Before 1853 Methodists met at the home of John Prudham, who donated the original half acre of land; the Prudham descendants have given more land to expand the cemetery.
